A personal approach

ABOUT US

We’re a family-run business with more than 40 years’ experience of nursing and care. It’s our aim to look after our residents as if they were our own kin

A FAMILY-RUN BUSINESS

Windmill Care continues in its traditions of being a family run business and is controlled by Sarah Ashcroft, Director of Care and her husband David – ably supported by a team of senior managers.

Sarah and Dave are the next generation down from the business founders – Sarah’s parents Len and Katy Collacott – from whom they have taken control.

With over 20 years experience as a nursing sister in the NHS and in private residential homes, Katy quickly established Windmill House with an enviable reputation for uncompromising care.  An ongoing programme of re0investment steadily increased the number and size of the rooms available in order to meet the growing demand, as well as enhancing communal spaces and re-landscaping the walled gardens.

Recognising the shortage of places for quality residential care across South Gloucestershire and Bristol, Osbourne Court was built in 2009.  A purpose built home in Stoke Gifford offering a further 58 rooms.  At this time the senior management team was strengthened when Katy’s brother Richard Deverson joined as Operations Director following a career in the Royal Navy.

The doors to The Meadows – the latest addition to the group – opened in 2018.  The 84-bed home stands on the outskirts of Yate and as well as offering specialist residential and dementia care, also hosts on the NHS’ cutting edge new programmes designed to free up hospital beds.  Operating in partnership with Sirona, the 30-bedded facility, knowns as Skylarks, provides rehabilitation facilities for elderly patients who aren’t quite ready to go home but no longer need hospital care.

Sarah and Dave both joined the family business in 2016.  Sarah having first qualified as a nurse and worked as a ward sister in Birmingham ITU.  She has long experience in the industry having worked in the homes as a student and assisted her family over the years.   Both Sarah and Dave have honed their skills over the last 8 years so when Len and Katy stepped down at the end of 2023 they were well placed to carry on.

Sarah says “I have inherited my parent’s passion for elderly care, and their pride in a family run business that is able to go the extra mile.  I have every intention of continuing with the same ethos”

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Kindness and compassion are front and centre of everything we do. We believe that later living should remain as enjoyable and dignified as your earlier years. That’s why we’re proud to lead our dedicated teams in providing person-centred care that really focuses on the individual, their life and their interests.

Safety is paramount and we’ll go the extra mile to ensure that our homes and care standards are the very highest they can be.
