We’re lucky enough to have a well established orchard at Windmill House. As well as providing ample nectar for our resident bees, it’s produced a bumper crop of apples this year.

Rather than let them go to waste, staff and residents spent a morning gathering the fruit, which we boxed up and took to be juiced by a lovely family in Devon who have been pressing apples from orchards across the South West since mid-August.

After delivering more than 100kg of ripe fruit to them, we collected 82 bottles of delicious, sweet juice. It’s been pasteurised so it will keep in the pantry for most of the year, that’s if we don’t drink it all at lightening speed.
